Wow, what an incredible kickoff to the fishing season! Crowley Lake has been delivering some truly unforgettable days. Just take a look at the photos—they say it all! The fish are starting to venture a bit deeper, but we're still catching plenty. The first algae bloom of the season began about a week ago, but thanks to the afternoon winds, it’s been manageable. We've got slightly cooler temperatures forecasted this week, with another warm-up expected for the weekend. Crowley is on fire, and you definitely don’t want to miss out. Come see for yourself what an amazing day on the lake is all about!
The runoff is in full swing, which limits some fishing spots, especially on the Upper and Lower Owens. The Lower Owens is off-limits until late fall, with flows consistently over 400 cfs. The Upper Owens is still fishable, but choose your spots wisely. From the confluence of Hot Creek downstream, the water is murky with loose debris. Focus upstream and please give spawning fish their space. We’re nearing the end of the cutthroat spawn, but a few might still be around. It’s heartbreaking to see the impact of pressure on these fish this year, with many dead Cutts along the riverbanks. They’re easy targets and pay the ultimate price. Remember, these are our future fish. Leave spawning fish alone... The Upper O needs some time to recover.
The East Walker is bouncing back after last year’s fish kill at the end of August. There are still quite a few anglers out there, with most success downstream of the bridge.
As always, let the photos do the talking. Don’t wait to book your date on my calendar; this summer is shaping up to be a busy one. I can’t wait to show you an amazing day on the water!
