As usual Crowley has been kicking out big smiles on the regular. Fishing continues to be productive on the daily. This is your stop for current conditions and Crowley Lake Fishing Report for June 2026. As you can notice in some of the photos we are experiencing the first big algae bloom of the season. Water temps are on the rise with it reaching 66-67 degrees on the surface the last few days. Fish have been present in depths of 24'-30' but we have been focusing on staying shallow as much as we can. Various chironomid patterns have been working well. I typically run something flashy up top with standard grey, black or blood midges on the bottom. Fish are feeding close to the bottom anywhere from 1'-3'. Deep water slide indicator rigs are required to fish at this depth but with a little research, trial & error you can figure it out pretty quick.
This coming week will bring temperatures into the mid to upper 80's which will bring more algae and higher surface temps, handle fish with care, keep them wet and release them as quickly as possible. Perch are on the spawn and the fry should be right around the corner. This past week we have seem many more damsels and calibetis on the lake so put that in your rotation for fly selection.
I anticipate that fish will move into the shallows of McGee a little bit early this year due to the light freeze we experienced during the winter months, combined with the warm and inviting spring temperatures that have recently graced our region. Typically, the seasonal patterns of fish behavior are influenced by temperature fluctuations and environmental conditions, and this year seems to be no exception. With the unseasonably warm weather, it is likely that fish will start their migration into the shallows sooner than we might expect, making it an exciting time for anglers looking to catch them in the more accessible waters. Therefore, I encourage everyone to keep this development on your radar as it could significantly impact fishing strategies and success rates.
Additionally, I still have plenty of prime dates available for fishing excursions at the end of June and extending into July. This period is often characterized by increased fish activity, and with the early movement into shallower waters, it could present unique opportunities for a successful outing. Whether you are an experienced angler or a novice looking to learn the ropes, these dates could provide ideal conditions for fishing. The combination of favorable weather and abundant fish activity in the shallows will likely result in some memorable experiences on the water. So, if you’re considering planning a fishing trip, now is the perfect time to secure your spot and take advantage of these optimal fishing conditions.
As always, I like to let the photos do most of the talking. Contact Wild Fly Anglers to get you out on your next fishing adventure.
