Crowley Lake is at full capacity and trout have been stocked periodically through the winter. This season has been fairly mild in regard to daily temperatures leaving the lake primarily ice free for most of the winter months. What does this mean for the season ahead?
Well we can only hope that it has provided the trout population with the chance to thrive and grow for the anglers awaiting the opportunity to take part in the season to come.
With lake levels being as high as they are it will limit the available camping options and shoreline access. Crowley Lake Fish Camp has mentioned that shoreline access will be slightly limited so a boat will be the best option. The North Arm is still up for debate as far as access and camping goes.
The Forrest Service plans to open several campgrounds in our area including, Tuff Campground, French Camp and McGee Creek. You can book sites through https://www.recreation.gov/. Come May 1st we should see some other options available such as Crowley Lake BLM Campground and others options TBD.
Recently fishing has been great on the Upper and Lower Owens. Flows increased on the Lower Owens today from 125 cfs to 175cfs. This is still great for accessing the river and it is my favorite time of year to take advantage of some of the best trout fishing available on the Wild Trout Section just North of Bishop.
Many thanks to the folks who are passionate about trout fishing in our area and have come out and fished with Wild Fly Anglers over the past few weeks. As a more seasonal operation early season trips are very important in supporting a local guide. With last year being such a long winter it took awhile for things to kick off. I'm very much looking forward to a good start this year and all the water we have. Please feel free to reach out with any questions and inquires. We can't wait to show you a memorable day on the water.
